Dry Skin Care Tips

Our skin is our first line of defense against disease and sickness. It is also a general overview of how healthy a person may be. Dry skin is one of the major problems of many people today. Dry skin care is vastly different from normal skin care and oily skin care. The skin covers almost all parts of our body and dry skin care for the different parts of the body may differ as well, because not all parts of the body may be in need of dry skin care.

Elbows, Knees And Heels

The elbows, knees and heels are prone to dryness and calluses. If these body parts are extremely dry several applications of body butter may be necessary to soften them up. Dry skin care for these body parts does not stop there; one remedy for dry and cracked heels is to take about two caplets of 500 mg omega 3 fish oil twice a day. This is a proven and effective dry skin care method of dealing with cracked and dry heels while rubbing and applying body butter on the elbows and knees help with dryness in these areas. It also helps not to put too much pressure on these areas of the body to prevent the development of calluses.

Facial And Body Skin Care

Dry skin care for the face may vary depending on the situation. Some people have different skin types in the face while some have a uniform skin type. For those who need a dry skin care product for the overall face, it is best to stick to one line of products with the same brand if these suit the skin. Varying brands may have adverse side effects on the skin. It is also best to follow up a bath with an extra application of moisturizer since tap water can dry skin due to the chlorine and other drying chemicals used to treat it.

After bathing, it is best to apply a thin coat of moisturizer to seal in the water that has just been used. This dry skin care tip may be done with a moisturizing lotion or light baby oil for those with severe dry skin. Sometimes it is the weather that causes dry skin. During winter, dry skin care is necessary for many people and one way to do this is to have a humidifier in the room or in some areas of the house. During the summer months, it is best to avoid direct sun exposure to prevent skin dryness.
